Does anyone think Animal cruelty is wrong, and if so, what are you doing about it?

I have found that many people actually don't care about animals, and so I wanted to know your opinion. I'm not just talking about pet animal cruelty, but even things like circuses. I did a little bit of research on the internet on things and this is what I found:

(Note: This is actually a real life scenario!):

Behind the scenes, elephant trainer Tim Frisco instructs would-be trainers how to dominate elephants and make them perform circus tricks. 鈥淪ink that hook into 鈥檈m. When you hear that screaming, then you know you got their attention.鈥?An elephant trumpets in agony as Frisco鈥檚 bullhook, with its sharp metal hook and spiked end, tears through her sensitive skin. Frisco, a Carson & Barnes elephant trainer, learned the trade from his father, a former trainer for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. The fact is, animals do not naturally ride bicycles, stand on their heads, balance on balls, or jump through rings of fire. To force them to perform these confusing and physically uncomfortable tricks, trainers use whips, tight collars, muzzles, electric prods, bullhooks, and other painful tools of the trade.

It is said that over 70 million animals are tortured and killed in US laboratories each year. Rabbits are routinely blinded in a process named the 'Draize' test. The Draize test protects companies from potential lawsuits, and does not necessarily protect or guarantee human safety. Purchasing cosmetics from companies who specify no animal testing is one small step that can be taken to prevent animal cruelty. The medical research field also take part in animal experimentation.

Approximately 4 million animals are used in research each year in Australia alone. It has been estimated that at least twenty to thirty animals die in laboratories each second worldwide.

What do you think of these statistics? Do you think it is wrong for people to do this? What do you think people should do to help prevent animal cruelty?

Also, the reason I put this question into this category is because if I put it into something like 'pets' I'd just get answers from animal lovers. I want to know everybody's opinion. What do you think?

Hey..
This is singles and dating but that is OK. I think you bring up some good points in all forms of animal cruelty. It is wrong but I am getting the feeling that its only getting worse and worse, not better.

I rescued two mares recently. (female horses) They are both under weight so terribly that their bones are exposed literally in some spots. The skin is just totally rubbed off. Sadly I could only take the two worst horses and there are still 40 horses there. PETA got involved in it because the local animal control will do nothing for them. We are talking dead horses laying around, live ones walking in the same pen, etc.

So yes, its bad in all sorts of forms. Whether its right under your nose or behind the scenes. If more people cared I think more action would be taken.

Good question!

i'm not buying any product tested on animals

animals are the reason why humans have a deeper spirit of the Earth

You're in the wrong place. This is singles & dating.

i love animals and save every single one i can. Its horrible how some people are, especially how animals are just about the only thing on the earth that judges NO ONE. I have also cut out some meats from my diet, im down to chicken/turkey and fish :)

well i only read the first paragraph of what you wrote, but i hate zoos and circuses and stuff
i will refuse to go to the zoo if i can, and i like wild animal parks better but still would rather have just an animal park where there is no human contact
and i would gladly give up seeing a single polar bear again if that means that they would get taken off of the endangered animals list

I'm against it totally. And I don't understand how people can be so heartless, the animals are only there to love you. I joined the ASPCA website and when I'm old enough I'm going to donnate $18 a month to them. I really love animals and they don't deserve to be treated badly, I'm also going to resue animals when I'm older.

I really apprecite you bringing this topic up to.

I adopt animals from shelters. I rescue dogs and cats in my neighborhood. I give to shelters and animal funds. That's all I do to support animals. I don't attend the circus. I'm not going to march against anything. I am for helping animals.

everytime i see someone doing somethign wrong i turn them in. i turned it a big farm using gaming roosters. there was at least 50 and it was near Ulvade Tx also saw some horses with skin and bones i turned them in aslo TO ASPCA. i do my part when i can see it. i am nt afriad of no one.

to be deliberately cruel to an animal is wrong. to cause animals deaths during experimentation to find cures for what ails people in RIGHT.. to think otherwise, then u are putting an animal life in front of a human life.. like all those PETA idiots...

to be cruel, you have to deliberately be cruel. animals dying so people can live is NOT cruel. if killing and torturing a dog will save one human life, I would kill and torture the dog. that's not deliberate cruelty. that's necessity. So you all get over it . .. using animals for research is a good thing

Human are superior beings so if we need to use rabbits, goat, cows, cats and pigs for research so that we can find a cure for things like Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer's (among others), then be it. I don't think animal rights should be considered before human rights. If you are religious, then you know man was created to rule over them and if you are a scientist and don't believe in creation, then you surely know humans are the most adaptive creatures, with superior brain power and complex needs...uncomparable to any animal. Only a dolphins comes close.

Don't get me wrong. I am not an animal hater. I, however have a big problem with people who love animals more than humans...like that old lady who died and left her millions to a dog yet she had grand kids who could use college funds, medical insurances and a good place to call home.

I will agree that animals should be our friends...but we need not to cross a mental line. I think dressing up animals in the name of love is equally demented. I am pretty sure these are not the answers you are looking for, but hey, you wanted to know what we (I) think.
