How can i fix my shaky bike wheel?

My rear bike wheel wobbles left and right while i peddle, and when i flipped it over to check it out the whole wheel shakes left and right. Can i fix this myself, or how much would it cost to get it repaired at a bike shop?

when i grab it in my hand i can shake my wheel left and right, and it also goes left and right when i spin it, has this happened to you, if it is the bearings how much did it cost?

Unless the cones are loose which is easy enough to fix- you just tighten them with a spanner , it sounds like the spindle and ball bearings would need to be replaced which isn't too difficult to do but for a few Pounds/Dollars extra you might be as well just buying a new wheel. It depends what condition the wheel is in and whether it's worth the time and expense of repairing it.


Edit- ball bearings are extremely cheap and cost about 拢3 ($6) and they usually come with a tube of lithium grease but if the spindle is damaged they will only be a temporary repair.

depends, If its bent you can adjust spokes till its true, if its a bearing you can replace that. But youll need to know which it is. If it can rock back and forth in your had, its thebearing, if you spin it slow and the same area aways seems to move left or right, its bent.
