What do you do with your helmet when you go in a store or whatever?

When you leave your bike for a while what do you do with your helmet? im gunna be riding my gixxer to college and i dont wanna have to bring my helmet to class with me but im afraid it will be gone after school if i leave it with my bike.. and another quick question. should i chain my bike to something if im gunna be away from it for a while bc i hear a lot of stories of people just putting the motocycle right in the back of a truck and driving away and im only getting liability insurence

I park my bike inside a guarded parking garage at work, so I don't worry about it too much there, but while going in a store for a short time, I usually just hang my helmet on the rear footpeg and never had my helmet stolen. You can always get a thin cable lock and lock the helmet to the frame of your bike or if your Gixxer has them, remove the rear seat and use the helmet clips to hook your helmet straps to. Check out what other bikers at your college do with their helmets. If you see everyone locking their helmets up or bringing it with them, that'll be a good indication that helmets probably get stolen alot. If riders leave them unsecured, then theft is probably not a problem.

If you are going out of town for a few days and leaving your motorcycle at home outside, then you should chain it up to something. It can't hurt to do so...right?

Keep the front fork locked and if you want get an additional front wheel disc lock.

you should always lock your bike to something, also buy 2 type of lock (IE) chain, & revolver & use a diferent one after a few days it makes it a bit harder as they dont know what tools to bring , buy a disk lock for the front wheel you can get one with an alarm on it ,
helmet dont chain to bike dogs pee in them if they are on floor, also a chin strap is easy to cut to remove helmet from the bikes helmet lock, also if they steel your bike & the helmet is there they dont look suspicius pushing a bike with a helmet,
35 years of riding motorcycles in real life & parking in some dodgy places,

Get a bag to put your helmet in, Aerostitch/Riders Wearhouse have a bag, lines with wire mesh, around $50 bucks that will keep it clean and dry, locked to you motorcycle. Either that or buy a helmet pack, and "Hump it". Sorry, couldn't resist!

Tales of people lifting a motorcycle in to a truck are more common than actual proof of the event. Still it would not be bad idea to lock it to something immovable. Get a hardened steel security chain, and a heavy secure padlock.

If you plan to be away (over night, etc.) you should chain it.

As for the helmet, most motorcycles (and scooters) have a helmet lock. But I think you should just carry it. It is a real girl magnet.

Good Luck..

I carry my helmet around with me. Even with bikes that have a helmet lock under the seat, I've heard of too many tales of people cutting the strap to take the helmet ( why, I don't know...a helmet without a strap is useless ).

I throw mine on the ground beside the bike and think to myself " why would anybody even think of stealing something like that?"

there is a kryptonite lock cable that you can't cut with bolt cutters, i'd suggest that...

either carry the helmet, or lock it under the back seat...

i hang my beanie on my front brake lever. lucky if i remember to lock the ignition switch or pull the key, never been a problem. but there is a difference between my harley with a support your local red&white sticker on it and some japp crapp parked some place. people just know better than to f*ck with my bike
