Is it OK to use super glue to lock the threads on a loose nut on a bike? |
The nut securing my pedal to the axle keeps on getting loose even after I re-tighten it. I'm thinking of using super glue as a thread adhesive. Is this effective or damaging to the metal? Thanks! BTW it's a flange (collar) nut. No...it's not strong enough. Also, if you're talking about the axle end nut that adjusts the bearings, the superglue wouldn't set up because of the grease inside (or if you cleaned it and it did set up, it would break down later on due to the grease). Some pedals take special sockets to snug the cone/locknut properly or else they'll keep coming loose....sometimes it's just worn threads on the axle or nut (more likely the nut). A new nut might fix things...you might even be able to use a nylock jam nut if you have room in there....Ace hardware has them. You should be able to get something from your bike shop designed specifically to prevent bolts coming undone. I certainly wouldnt use super glue though! |
