Shortening the bike chain on a pedal bike?

ok i think it does and my dad says it doesn't so does anyone know for sure if shortening the chain on a pedal bike makes it go any faster?

Only if your bike chain was soo long as to cause problems.

The minimal weight saved is NOTHING.

Absolutely not...it's all about the engine (meaning your legs)

Ok, here's my twisted way of thinking about it...all you physics people can correct me.

"I understand what you're saying but it doesn't work like that. Speed is determined by force, not by torque. Your bicycle will only go as fast as the force provided. What you are insinuating is that torque provides force. Nothing provides force except for you legs. Torque just explains the relationship between force and momentum...meaning your legs will spin faster with more torque but speed will not increase. Think about a bike that shifts. When you shift it into an easier gear, the torque goes up but does your speed? Not unless you apply more force to the pedals."
