Motorcycle "GAP" insurance?

I live in California, I was recently in a motorcycle accident. The bike was a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja ZX14, it was declared a total loss because it had to much damages for repair. My questions is, how much does GAP insurance cover. The other party is only going to pay $10,000, and the bike is worth $14,000. Does anybody know how much GAP covers?

The GAP information is found within your POLICY documents (it should tell you how much it will cover).

If the insurance company says that your bike was worth $10K before the accident, and you have$12K left on your bike payments, GAP will give you $2000 (and usually it goes straight to your financial company that is handling your payments).

Its all what the INSURANCE company claims that the bike is worth, not what you think the value is.

the answers have it bang on... gap insurance covers the gap between what is owed on it and what insurance settles it for.
it has nothing to do with what you think it's worth.
if they are paying out $10K on it, and you owe $10K or less, the gap insurance won't do a thing for you

GAP should cover the total difference between what is owed and what the regular insurance will pay. It covers the "GAP" in those numbers, 10,000 and 14,000.

The first two are very good answers. Lets hope that you were not injured in the accident or that your injuries were minor.
