Touring Bike? |
I need a good quality used touring bike. Where can I get a good touring bike that will last a long time for no more than $800. Ask around at your local bike shops and clubs, leave a Wanted poster on their bulletin boards. Do not be afraid to get an older road bike from the Eighties. They will have everything you need for touring and you will have $ left over for a rack and saddlebags. Raleigh, Peugeot, Fuji, Nishiki, Motobecane, Schwinn, etc. People sell them to "眉pgrade" to a newer model, but there is little to actually gain in overall performance. If you like in the UK head to your local halfords bikehut, they have a good line in bikes including some very cheap new tourers. If you like in the US which it appears you do, head for a local specialist to try bikes out and then buy from ebay or amazon marketplace to get a good deal used. You might look at a new Surly (www.surlybikes.com). They have a touring bike for under $1000 new. I saw a lot of them while I was riding the Seattle-to-Portland last week and I liked the look of them. I believe that they are made in Minnesota. get a shimano. well look local, try craigslist. |
