Which used mountain bike should i get trek 820 or older gary fisher marlin w/ no suspension? |
i am trying to decide which used mountain bike i should get either a trek 820 or an older gary fisher with no suspension i believe from the mid 90's. I live in south florida so im not going to be doing any intense mountain biking. well the trek 820 is a nice cheaper bike, and although one of the bottom of the trek range is simple and still a good smooth ride. However, apparently the gearing is not great and cant be pushed over the top. it is suitable for a casual rider who just goes out every now and again for pleasure ... and on a budget. For the marlin it is again similar to the trek yet i have been told the ride is better, yet the forks are not the best and not great for intense riding (which you say wont be a problem). It would be more expensive and yet it has a much better frame and ride quality If ground is flat, then the hardtail one is perfect. trek 720 is best |

Mountain bikes don't necessarily have to have gears as 'single speeds' are quite in vogue for many mountain bikers. I'll second the "put slick... Try e-bay or craigslist. I can't imagine a 10 year old bike would be worth much. My 10 year old GT is retired to the trainer because its got way too many miles and way too much abuse ... Get fitted at you local bike shop. Know what size will feel best, heck pick out a brand you like. Everyday go to E-bay and bid up to $200 until you win the bike you like. You will need at least ... Do you want to ride off road? Or are you looking at a mountain bike because you see it having a frame with bigger tubing? If you don't want to ride off road, consider a hybrid bike, possib... They're measured from the center of the bottom bracket (where the crankarms attach to the bike) up to the top tube (the horizontal-ish one). Different manufacturers measure to a different po... It depends on how far you want to go. What type of racing? If you're speaking of road riding you could fit road type tires for little money. That would get you the single greatest increase ... |
