Mountain bike ?!!!!!?

i want to get a new mountain bike, but i do not know too much about them cause i a m more of a bmx kinda person. i would love to know what popular brands there are an whats the diff. between some such duel suspension bar? please provide some kind of info

Features to pay attention to:
Full Suspension vs Hardtail
Brake system (disc - hydraulic vs mechanical)
Frame geometry - you like cross-country? jumping? downhills? different bikes for different types of riding focus

(these are the ones I see the most on the trails in NorCal).

Lastly - always check em out at a local bike store... I walked in looking at Santa Cruz bikes after reading online, but ended up with a Giant - it's all personal preference. Also - the bike you get really depends on budget - ranging from $500 to $5K. You might want to look at last years models, craigslist listings (shop carefully), etc to save a few bucks.

Rear-suspensions come in a number of flavors/designs - check out the maestro system from Giant - they outline some of the inherent problems with different designs.

if you want something to cross over on to Mt.biking on i would suggest the Werx 7 from Haro. trust me it comes out the box pretty well of then with some time and if you want to spend the money(not a lot either) you can make an unstopable bike!

don't get full sus it breaks well fast

get a hard tail
