Stationary bike/calories burned?

Okay so ive been using my stationary bike(recumbent)
and i accidentally broke the little machine that tells you how much calories you burn and how fast your going.and i really need to kow how many calories im burning.
ok so im 154lb. 5'6
i dont think im riding it that fast. =[
in one minute ive uhh pedalled 140 times...
so its like left foot is one right foot is two and so on..

ayways i dont think ive explained that very well but if anyone could take a guesstamite of how many calories id be burning in say an hour?

Thank you. =]

Hi Cowgirl...

I use a stationary bike daily and as a pure guestimate..here's some tips..

On a standard stationary bike, roughly 32 pedals as you described it (left foot is one, right foot is two etc.) is 100 meters.

So, if you do 140 pedals in a minute, you're doing roughly 437 meters a minute (which is quite fast) which is about 26km per hour or 16 miles per hour.

On my Stationary bike, with the wheel traction level set to low, I manage to do about the same (I'm 191lbs and 6 foot tall) and the calorie reading it gives me for 1 hour @ 25kph is about 600 calories.

As an aside, I think the readings those stationary bikes give are always too high, i.e. I reckon the readings are based on an average person of average size & weight, so I count it as 420 calories in my daily calorie count.

hope that helps....

was doing a workout after I posted that answer...got the numbers wrong...a 'pedal' is a full revolution..so divide by two...i.e. you're doing 13kph (about 8mph). it's a guestimate, but, I hope it helps as a guide. Report Abuse
