1972 Schwinn Paramount Question?

Hello,

I have a 1972 Schwinn Paramount with all original Campagnolo parts in nearly ideal condition. 1 or 2 small paint scrapes from a bike rack. The paint job was factory restored about 10 years ago (but no longer has the decals, since my dad didn't feel it was necessary to shell out $50+ on stickers).

I'm not sure if I want to sell this bike or not, but if anyone could give me a realistic idea of what the secondary market price would be that would be fantastic. Thank you very much in advance.

The work must have been done at a refinisher since the Schwinn/Paramount factory hasn't been around for almost 20 years, maybe more.

Unfortunately, just adding decals (to include the frame material, etc) is not enough. The decals were under the clear coat on Paramount. I would recommend that you include a set of them if you decide to sell it.

Now, Paramounts came in different grades. When equipped with Campagnolo, it could be Valentino, Gran Sport, or Nuovo Record. This would provide a price range with your repaint of $100-200 for the Valentino and a Reynolds 501 frame up to $500-600 for the Nuovo Record stuff ASSUMING the bike is in great shape.

Used bike values are affected greatly by seemingly minor details like incorrect housing colors or missing stickers on rims or frame. If the decals were applied correctly during refinishing and the color and detailing was correct you could have easily doubled the above values.

Check eBay........I've seen similar paramounts offered from $300 to $1,000 and more.

Buy the original NOS decals and put them on.......it's worth it.

The best prices are for older Cinelli's, Masi's and Colnago's. De Rosa's and Paramounts (and all the English brands like Bob Jackson, Hetchins, Mercian, Jack Taylor, etc) don't command quite the high prices.

Vintage bikes aren't as collectible as you might expect. In other words, the 1972 Stratocaster you may/should have purchased at the same time is worth a lot more than your bike!
