Huffy or Schwinn??

I need a good bike idea for my dad. He will only ride it 2 times a week mabey and the cost is way different.

I can't really afford a Schwinn but would if i had to to get a new bike. I want a good bike but it doesn't have to pro quality. I would rather spend less but don't want a cheap bike.

Thanks!

It's difficult to answer this one as we don't know how your dad might ride it (cruising around neighborhood, bike path, a little offroad, road).

Huffy and Schwinn have made some wonderful bikes in the past, and their reputation lives on. However, Huffys and Schwinns that you find in big box stores are not of that quality anymore.

I rarely disagree with MR, but our local D---k's seems to have some issues with assembling their bikes, so I'm leery of directing people there.

I found a low end Giant mtb (geared more like a hybrid) for $170 on sale a couple of years back. They are undoubtedly more now, but here's what bears repeating. If you buy the bike at a reputable bike shop, they are going to make repairs and adjustments that the other stores won't. They want your return business, and not just to sell you another bike.

Look at Schwinns, Raleighs, Giants, Specialized, and others. They all have recreational models designed for basic cruising.

It may be worth mentioning...That perhaps something that may help you decide is looking at the components. I have seen some schwinn models with shimano components. Now these are entry level components, however if they should break or need to be upgraded, shimano parts are easy to find and for the most part interchangeable. If you look at the parts on the other cheaper bikes such as Huffy, etc. the components are generally ones that you can't replace and may or may not be able to upgrade. In other words if a part breaks you may be stuck with scraping the whole bike.
Also don't rule out a used bike from the local bike shop.

If you don't want a cheap bike why ask about a Huffy then? I'm guessing you are looking at Wal Mart, Target or the like - they are cheap bikes. If he's going to ride often maybe check out a sports store - *Dick's* tends to have the best selection. A moderately priced bike would do fine.

depending on the model, more than likely Schwinn will have a bit better quality components on it that will improve shifting braking and smoothness of the ride. My opinion, if possible go with Schwinn

Consider this: if the bike is cheap, your dad won't like riding it nearly as much.

If you can't afford a decent bike, hold off on the purchase or look at used bikes.

Schwinn, They make better quality bikes.

huffy
there good bikes and there not that expensive
schwins are nice but not that much better
go for the huffy

You haven't met anyone who knows much about bikes if you're debating these two for purchase. Coming here for advice is a great move.

All Huffy's are cheap crap! There is no such thing as a good Huffy. Some Schwinns are crap but many are not. While the worst Schwinn is better than the best Huffy, there isn't that much difference between a low end Schwinn and a Huffy.

Remember, biking is hard exercise especially for a beginner. A cheap, malfunctioning bike is torture while a good bike is invisible. And I'm sorry, a good bike costs more than any Huffy: you really do get what you pay for, especially at the low end.
