Will recumbent cycles and Human Powered Vehicles help in india's polution reduction?

there are velomobiles and huma or pedal powered vehicles in Europe that can also be modified to run with battery or gasoline, but with oil price almost as high as gold, wouldn't it be better if India and Indians started using human powered vehicles instead of scooters and auto rickshaws? in mumbai, autorickshaw drivers colaborate and take any 3 passengers to a reasonably close distance from the railway station and the cost per passenger is as little as the bus fare. so wouldn't the save drivers save even more if they powered their own vehicle???

The only thing that will help India right now is for the Indian people to stop having so many offspring. Less people = less pollution, less people to use resources and a better quality of living. The same can be said for many African countries and China. Although China has started to take population control measures, albeit not the most humane ways.

This is a Critical Issue, applicable to China and India and nearby nations with about half the world population.
Perhaps, city planning can do more than it has accomplished.

Industry has always been kept far away from homes because of its pollution and noise. Perhaps, if industry could be made to be clean and quiet, as quiet and clean as a home, people would not have to travel a long distance to work.
Also, if houses could be made to allow the removal of its contents; there is something odd about the sight of line of workers carrying things, one at a time from the street curb, how about a large side door or something like it?
People that change jobs could swap with someone that left the neighborhood. This may require computers to allow for Three-Way swaps and keep track of all the possibilities and not leave residents clueless of possibilities that would shorten, speedup or otherwise facilitate their commute to a new job site.
Bus routes could be tailored to pickup some 25 commuters in one neighborhood that work in sites that can be reached with a simple route. Email can be used to transmit, back and forth, requests for pickup points and desired times. Why must we all congregate at a conrner?

Cites, generally follow ancient ideas and are designed to accommodate people only, not the jobs that change but are essential to survive.

The retired could be enticed to move to areas that would enrich their last 20 years after retirement -which they always ignored.
