Does anyone know Scooter Laws in Houston Texas?

I am new to Houston and have read the information on their website but its kind of confusing. I want to get a scooter to go back and forth to work. There would be no interstate roads on the way and its about 8 miles. At first I wanted a 250cc to ride on the interstate, but I know you have to have classes, license and insurance etc plus its more expensive.

But if I just get a 50cc I'm pretty I don't need all of that, but could someone who knows tell me how it all works for both 250cc and 50cc scooters.

if it is driven on a public roadway it will have a tx lic plate, the driver will be required to have a tx MC drivers lic, depending on the cc size will determine type of lic, if you do not have the MC trainning course or 10k in med ins you will be required to wear a helmet, so go ahead and buy 1 big enough to enjoy after work as well to ride to work.

RIDE SAFE, WATCH OUT FOR OTHERS FOR THEY DO NOT WATCH FOR YOU

If the scooter is 49cc or less you only need a drivers license in texas and be at least 15 years of age. It is not considered a motorcycle. You do not need to title or insure as some have suggested here. Call the State of Texas Department of Public Safety for more info. Report It

Yes. Texas requires you to have a license, insurance and registration for mopeds and scooters.

Mopeds, Scooters, and Motorcycles

The state of Texas requires you to register and title your moped, scooter, or motorcycle, and it provides a detailed Web site with all the rules and regulations concerning mopeds and motorcycles.

With the operation of any street-legal moped, scooter, or motorcyle, a motorcycle license is also mandatory. If you are age 15 to 17, you'll need to take a safety course before you can apply for a motorcycle license.

You and your passengers are also required to wear approved helmets at all times.

You'll register your moped, scooter, or motorcycle at your county tax office. You'll need to provide proof of insurance, and the manufacturer's certificate of origin or the current title signed over to you. After paying the appropriate fees, you'll be issued a motorcycle tag, which you'll need to attach to the rear of the bike. The annual registration fee for these vehicles is $30.30.
Insurance and Inspections

Texas requires that all motor vehicles, including mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles, pass a yearly vehicle inspection. You're also required to maintain proper insurance coverage on these vehicles鈥昷ust like you would with a passenger car or truck.
