How fuel efficient is a 125cc scooter in comparison with a 50cc?

How fuel efficient is a 125cc scooter in comparison with a 50cc? Currently I spend just 拢3 a week on petrol with my funny little 50cc! Love it really, but I want more zippy when I'm getting between short distances. Plus Ebay has some new 125cc's for 拢499 ! And is insurance cost likely to go up much between them? My 50cc is 拢130 TPFT. Plus can you swap insurance over onto new model if I replace the 50cc mid-year? Cheers for the info!

With the larger displacement you will probably lose a little bit of gas milage but hardly enough to be very noticeable. As for your insurance it will more than likely increase a bit. Most insurance companies go by the engine size for coverage prices. Then it will also vary by the country you have the insurance in. I believe the differences should not vary to much for the upgrade you want to do.

I gave the guy above a thumbs up as hes got a very good point! Scooters often seem to be slightly thirstier than 125 geared bikes.
I have a cbr125 and its amazingly cheap to run!- I pop about four quid in it every fortnight and it gets me anywhere and everywhere, compared to my friend who has a gilera runner 125 which seems to cost double in fuel.
Id be REALLY careful about those super-cheap bikes on ebay. Most are chinese imports and the build quality is pretty poor, not to mention the fact that spares will be a nightmare to get hold of.
You should be able to swap your insurance without a hitch, Id guess that your insurance will rise by 50-100 pounds maximum (depending on your age and location.)
Good luck!

125cc bikes generally have better power to weight ratio than 50ccs and need less revs than a moped when going at the same speed- so normally are more economical on fuel. For some reason 125 4-stroke m/cycles are faster and more economical on fuel than 125 scooters - try the honda cbr125.

It depends greatly on how the scooter is ridden but generally speaking ( and all other things being equal ), the larger the displacement, the more fuel it will use.

if you buy a new chinese or korean 125 on ebay it may be difficult to sell later. can you get spares? will anyone service it?

it may be better to get a well-known brand of bike a couple of years old
