I went out today to buy a scooter and nobody would let me test ride them?

Does this sound like a load of crap to you. It was well you don't have a motorcycle license, we don't have insurance on these, we don't allow test drives. Am I missing something?

o.k. you all make good points no motorcycle license no test drive. My whole thing is I don't want to be told this scooter gets 100 mpg and goes 70 mph comfortably then find out very quickly it's more like 60 mpg and 40 mph and then have the salespeople lie like salespeople do and say"we never told you anything like that.

No, you aren't missing anything. Go to a car dealer with no drivers license and see how many you get to test drive. It's theirs until you buy it.

People come and they do not know how to ride one and wreck it before they get off the lot, they steal them, and in my state it is against the law to have them prepped and gassed up on the show room floor. There is a good reason for not letting some one ride your product. Just read some of these questions in here and would you let these people ride what you had for sale.

That's how it is. The same holds true for many motorcycle dealerships too... even if you have a motorcycle license.

Try writing some of the manufacturers and ask for names of dealerships that do allow test drives and/or have scooter rider education courses.

Thats typical. Most motorcycle dealers will not allow a person to drive before they buy. This forces most people to buy what looks good or has the best specifications, reviews, etc. Most people buy a bike based on looks with no idea what it is like to ride.

dealers don't offer test rides because a total doofus before you took one for a test ride and wrecked it
and most dealers are very small business men on a limited budget that can't afford the necessary insurance to cover customers that test ride

it's alot easier to damage a motorcycle, mainly by dropping it, then it is a car..

it might help if ou had walked in with a vheicle of equal value to offer as 'insurance'

No, you have to have a motorcycle license to drive a scooter.

Would a car lot let you test drive a car without a driver's license? No.

would you get to test drive a car without a license?

"we dont have insurance on these" seems like crap, but it could be true and its just a shitty dealership.

"we don't allow test rides" is a legit reason... lots of places dont...

Get a license. It is illegal to ride without a license!
It makes perfect sense to me.
DO you think a car dealer would let you test drive a car without seeing your license first!
