Best places to find a rebuildable street bike?

im looking for a rebuildable streetbike in the 600cc range. between me and my dad we could probibly fix anything..ive heard of people buying them from insurance companies can i do this...or should i just look in junk yards?

I would suggest craigslist or cycletrader with a warning to make sure you can see the bike and title before purchasing. Lot's of scams out there on craigslist, but also some good deals to be had. I have only had a couple of expirences in bone yards, it's hit and miss. Check your local yellowpages for salvage yards and make a couple of calls.

Good Luck!

www.crashedtoys.com

That site is FULL of wrecked bikes.

Another good idea is to put an ad in your paper's motorcycle section offering to buy a wrecked bike. There are LOTS of guys who could afford the bike, but couldn't afford the insurance. I personally know of two bikes that are just sitting gathering dust while the owners try to decide what to do because they were wrecked and weren't insured.

I bet either of those bikes could be bought for next to nothing and put back together with ebay parts. The titles would even be clean since they were never totaled by an insurance company.
